About Kavya Ganesh
Kavya Ganesh is a multi-faceted artist working at the intersection of movement and theatre. Her Bharatanatyam work is characterised by a deep acknowledgment of the form’s traditions while simultaneously finding contemporary extensions of its structural traditions. She trains under leading dance artist Rama Vaidyanathan and has worked with stalwarts in the dance field including contemporary choreographer Akram Khan Company and Bharatanatyam visionary Mythili Prakash. Extremely dedicated to her craft from a very young age, she brings a tremendous sense of thought and innovation to her pieces. She has created well-acclaimed novel performance experiences including Stand-Up Natyam and Dancing to Her own Tune that reinvent the possibilities of classical dance.
Kavya has performed across India, USA and Europe and some of her notable performances include the HCL series at the Music Academy Madras, NMACC Mumbai, NCPA Mumbai’s Mudra festival, Esplanade Singapore, Erasing Borders NYC, SWEAT festival Hong Kong, and many more. She has delivered a well-received TEDx Talk titled “Decoding Bharatanatyam: Bringing it Closer to Home”. Kavya completed her Bachelor’s degree in Literature and Performing Arts at Ashoka University and trained in the ‘Conservatory for Actors’ drama program at Yale University in the summer of 2022.
Kavya believes in having a studied inter-disciplinary approach to her work and has always dreamed big. She is the founder and artistic director of Kavya Ganesh Company that creates live performance experiences through an amalgamation of dance, theatre and literature and simultaneously hopes to expand Bharatanatyam’s reach among audiences.
